3 packs to find a good pheno? Is that normal?

Looking at the genetics, Ghost OG x Neville's Wreck (Trainwreck x Neville's Haze) I expect to get a fair amount of undesirable phenos. I don't want trainwreck, and I definatley do not any 12+ week Neville's Haze, so to lock down the Ghost OG I expect to pop two packs before I'm satisfied. The third will most likely go in the vault for if I lose the genetics or don't find what I want in the first two.

I usually buy two packs of anything I want. Either to grow both out until I find the best pheno, or to save the other pack in case I lose the cut from the first. Some breeders I have more faith in than others. And with RD's limited available info, I don't have any faith yet.
I grew out TGA for 2 years and pretty much nothing else. As much as people want to label Subcool as a master breeder, in my experiences he is not. All of his new strains are pollen chucks. Not years of meticulous breeding to isolate and stabilize a strain, he just throws dank plant A + dank plant B (usually his space queen male) and people gobble that shit up because even though there is wide variation in the phenos, a lot are dank. Thats not from good breeding, just good genetics which he is gifted. Out of two packs of Jillybean, none looked similar. After two packs of Querkle, only two females carried a slight bit of resemblence to eachother. I could on for a few others, but you get the point.

There are a lot of factors that dictate to me what makes a keeper, and what makes a one grow wonder. So to make sure I satisfy those factors, I do usually pop two packs. Three is just when I want something really bad. Like Cannaventures Blue Magoo x Jazz Berry Jam, got three packs in the mail right now.

thanks for the info about sub cool brand, I've got of the 20 seeds sprouted and planted,
1 vortex, 1 jilly bean, yeah only 2 made it i feel that is really weird.

as clones from a friend, i have vortex, querkle, agent orange.

did the pure x royal last year and blue diesel, keeping those...
am going for a new sexy sativa, hoping that dna genetics super cantaloupe is the one , says finicky, but if i already am, i think we will be a good match,

i also did the larry og, by cali connection, popped 10 beans, also only one did anything, hoping its the bomb female pheno...

happy growin

Nice my man...Got lots of experience with the above. The AO will stretch like a MUG in the flower stage. Very orange-ish tasting. Huge fluffy buds that will taste like orange pez...
Querkle is a great plant but will need extra time in veg to be a strong yeilder(if inside)...packs a great buzz and is definitely purple...tastes great too!!
...and don't forget about JTR, one of Sub's best strains bar none...
Hope you're well my man!!
...and for that matter, all of you peeps here on TC

edited to add...Not sure of Sub's breeding practices, but I've had incredible luck with the JTR and Querkle...the AO was a little too stretchy for my previous loccation...anyways...GOOD LUCK!!

jus fer the heck...since I never grew them out b4. As a kind of tribute to the late DrJay2001. The Alibi seeds he gave me in late 2004. Don't know which version, guess they might be his F2's???

So far we've only cut lower branches where we have airy buds that are essentially puff balls of resin. The taste is spicy, a bit harsh, a tad sweet, and goes right for your nose.

The effect is one huge Sativa like BUZZ. This is proving to be real psychedelic pot. I think it's because of the hot summer this year and going outdoors instead of lights.
Quote:
The taste is hashy with no sweetness, no diesel, no fruit. The smoke is large and expansive producing cough. The effects are color and music enhancement and stimulation. Old time speed weed.

The Texas Mystic (Alibi) has become one of our garden staples. It's an all Sativa buzz and great for daytime use. The buds are so light (although all frosty as you can see) that this strain has no commercial value in my opinion. For me it's head stash. It's just like smoking a great Oahaxcan.
I actually have some real Oahaxcan to try later ...seems DrJ thought so much of these he's ascribing all of his favorites/sativa traits to it. Punta roja, the real deal is going to take 16+ wks.

The TRC boys in Texas did a great job on this Train Wreck x Sweet Tooth #4 cross. Although many of the phenos were weak we snagged a good one that is very reminescent of old time punta roja or Oahaxcan Sativa. Pic #1 is Alibi at 35 days and #2 at 55 days. These girls go 60. They are sweet, spicey, and all cerebral :-)

Yours,
Dr. Jay

hell, UB once told me they were really good stock (the TM), then 1/2yr later on PG he was telling some1 else that the Alibi/TM was just yer typical MJ forum fare...meh, UB isn't exactly reliable/inconsistent in wut he sez, imho.

Haven't stored the 50 or so ideally, jus @ moderate So. Cal. room temps.

Will be a basis for trying out CMH + 90/100w LED UFO light I don't have much faith in.

If that all works out as a test run...then the real deal stuff follows in late July/Aug
