Default Hashmasta-Kuts Titanium; Ti-Pad specs.

Hello hashmasta, could you shed a little bit of info? I was curious on 2 things.

1.) What is the thickness of the titanium pads you use 0.000" or in millimeters. Have you experimented with thicker or thinner pads, that made you stick with this one size? Is machining a bowl type divet in the center of the Ti pad make any positive effect.

2.) What gauge wire do you use and what metal is that made out of? The wire you use to wrap the Ti pad to the glass bell.

yo Zach way to produce!(interesting questions).

if i recall this shit i got now is 0.063. i had thinner stuff and thicker. this is pretty good for thickness in my opinion. its grade 2 pure ti.

funny timing on the other metal question. actually i use two types of wire, one is bike spokes, which is stainless, and thats the funny part is that i just went down today and grabbed another 80 or so. was down to 1 and i use some kinda flexible i dunno what it is cheap shit 18 gauge for wrapping the stainless wire to the glass in a hinge formation. it sees no heat so it doesnt matter what its made of.

oh yah thanks toro i missed that part. ya i indent the titanium to make a depression to hold the oil in. fresh ti has a tendency to let oil slip off if you dont hold the poker down the whole toke, but after it has a slight char on its not so slippy.

Excellent answer and wow you where speedy.

I have a square foot of grade 2 commercially pure but its a whopping .125" thick. Its valued right around $120, kinda of expensive. I will need to order something thinner as I assumed it would work better, thats why i wanted to check with the pro's

I do have a .125 prototype its got a large sized dish grooved in, its just a lame 1" by 2" rectangle though with a slight twist on it. I want to make something more cosmetically apealing. Plus like you said i think using thinner than .125 would be better. In a weird way it almost seems like it holds onto heat a little better for the sizzle. I know less material will cool quicker, but its hard to explain, experience will tell, you'll know what I'm talking about

I'm going to try another, starting with a 1.5" Square cut and try to grind the corners off to make it a perfect circle. Then notch in 8 small slits (just a datch from a dremel cut-off wheel) 2 side by side on the left, 2 on the right, same for top and bottom. This will make effectivaly make notches, and to the left and right will be valley's countersunk for the wire to drop in and lace hold of the Ti pad. It will be bent concave with maybe even a slight bit of grinder work to give the bowl extra depth but i got to be careful not to take off to much material.

Thanks for the help, I'll try and post some pix when I get it done.

I'm gonna go call A.C. Slater right now, he needs to bring over some tools!
