Cfl potency?

Im currently using a 400 watt switchable mh/hps and seeing great results. I have built a cab out of an old dresser and plan to use CFLs for veg and flower with GH nutes in soil. Plan on using 300 watts. Now the guy at the local hydro shop was talking about how CFLs were basically useless when it comes to late stage vegging and flowering. Has anyone used cfls throughout the entire grown and grown some decent plants? Ive seen some great looking plants on forums grown with cfls in cabs but was wondering if the actual smoke was comparable to mh/hps. :/

look into the tf1 threads
this white widow was grown under cfls from home depot and smoked great
