Is it possible that the Ti you were using wasn't pure? There's a ton of 6AL-4V out there, and if someone isn't aware of the need for purity, I could see some bad things.

Grade 1-4 is CP. But even grade 5 would be safe to smoke from. Its all about the operating temps.

We've never used anything titanium so I can't offer an opinion on the taste difference between ti and glass.

I have noticed a HUGE difference in taste between ripping oil and ripping bud, and I would love to know the science behind how you can take regs, run some icky isopropyl over it and extract something that when heated tastes like flowers. If there's a thread or post that explains that somewhere else I would love to have a link. I have seen a hundred posts on how you make qwiso or bho, but nothing that explains how weed+chemicals=fragrant, flower-like taste.

The taste difference between glass or ti referred to here: is it a subtle difference like between, say for example, fresh corn or frozen corn, or a more noticeable difference like between fresh corn and canned corn?

Start with a 5 inch piece of 3/8" Grade 2 titanium rod. Machine away everything that doesn't look like a nail

I think the underlying flavor of the plant variety used comes out better on Ti. YMMV.

Hmmm, let me pull out my trusty machine. Lathe? Brake metal? Chop saw? It's here somewhere....*clank*

Ok, really, is that what y'all do....call a machine shop and request it?

edit: after a little research, I see you can get ti nails from a camping website! lol @ tent stakes!! I dunno....I think I need to do some more research!

Glass nails for us at our house!!

All you need is a lathe, a center drill bit, a 3/16" ball-end mill bit, and a cutter. I use a 55 degree negative rake carbide insert to do almost everything. I'll occasionally use a thread-cutting bit to define some fins, and a cutoff tool to part off the finished nail.

1) Clean up the end of the rod
2) Center drill the end deep enough to hold a live center
3) Turn the shaft
4) Ball-end mill the nail hole
5) Sand and polish

I should set up my webcam and video how to make one.

Ti pads taste better than glass nails, this isn't a new idea lol.
If you've tried both, you already know, and thats enough I feel...

About those propane torches, I own a few of them, they're ridiculously clumsy and large. I already find it sort of a bother that I have to heat something up at all to vape, so why make that more uncomfortable.

What should be the real question at hand is Ti Pad vs. Ti Nail, because right now, I'm torn over what to get.

I think it may depend very much on where the pad is obtained.

I have a curve setup that has a rather thin pad, with two corners turned up. I believe that this is a pad cut from a Ti spork, and not CP grade2. It vapes up fine, but kinda has a stink to it when I heat it up. I am waiting to try a kut/gg pad, they look thick and juicy.

I am in love with my dome and Ti nail.

EDIT-Julietherealjules, I wouldn't think those tent stakes are CP grd2

at this point the minor taste difference really doesn't matter to me, I mean I went from holding a glass rod over the stem of a bong to using a TI screen, glass or TI doesn't really matter they're both just there to vape, i'm sure after continuous use theres minor changes, but imo i haven't really tasted a change in the rod method or TI but again its no pad... only reason i'd want a ti nail was cause the glass ones break :/
