Small Run BHO Technique

Okay guys I have been doing this for about a year now and I have tried just about everything in terms of adjustments for how to raise my yield and get better taste. I have tried packing it as tight as I can with no air bubbles I have tried packing it looser and doing multiple runs and different extractors. I have done van purging and water purging at different temps, close to everything. I still get decent runs 13-17% but there has to be some way to do better as I have seen other ppl do it and see it here on TC regularly. Help me out please

I figured it was assumed because I said I have been doing this a while but I have used a wide variety of dank flowers, and I can totally tell that some are definitely better then others but I try to only use the best of the best to make oil with so other then occasional super strain i haven't seen much variety in yield it is usually in the same range and when compared with friends using the same exact plants i am usually slightly lower (yield wise), but I probably should have mentioned all that too.

As stated above, quality of starting material is the biggest determinant. The majority of what I run that is just "good" but not "fuckin pang" will average a 18% yield, sometimes I get lucky (20,21%), sometimes unlucky (12,13%). This is usually because I'm grabbing off of someone who grabbed off of someone who grabbed off someone who grabbed off of someone who grabbed off the grower, as opposed to when i grab my fire which is usually budmail, or off my buddy who knows a medicinal grower. The main difference being it only goes through maybe one persons hands between me and the grower in either case. Even if the weed isnt "higher quality" by virtue of getting it fresher (and thereby giving trichomes less opportunity to flake off), I tend to get higher yields.

Beyond trying to get weed that passed through less hands, or better quality weed, there isn't a heck of a lot you can do. The longer I make oil the more I understand how much money I'd save by growing my own.

edit: based on the information you added in your last post, I'd have to advise that you read all the stickies posted in this forum, and then see if you still need to ask the question again. Chances are you'd be able to see the difference in technique between yourself and your friends. These questions have been asked before, and you are not some special, unique case.

yield is all in the product, your tech is less important, as long as you know how to pack a tube tight and spray a can of butane, thats all it really takes.

First off I was just asking because I consider this site a panel of experts I can learn from, I don't think I am some special case. Maybe I'm just not getting the freshest stuff, but honestly I'm usually a step or two away from a medical grower so I like to think I do get quality stuff but being in New England its never perfect. I have read a lot of stickies and other forums, honestly Im just frustrated and was looking to see if I was missing something perhaps I'm just complicating the whole thing.

Overcomplicating it seems to be common for people still getting the hang of it, I know when I get frustrated it tends to happen to me and usually leads to more mistakes... for example, I'm fighting with an extremely well cured batch of Blue Dream that keeps fucking buddering on me no matter what I try, but I'll figure it out eventually.

The stickies are great but after a few dozen pages it gets muddy. Don't get hung up on 2 or 3 guys arguing for pages and pages over something like a 5-degree difference in temperature. Look for the guys who post photos of the best, clearest errls and don't be afraid to ask them to elaborate on their tech - this forum has some of the most OG oil making mutha fuckas around!

make sure the basters full, make sure its packed evenly. beyond that I cant think of anything that would effect yield except maybe how dry the bud is, how fresh the bud is, or what I stated in my last post. the reason I told you to read the stickies is because thats where I learned what I learned, in conjunction with doing hundreds of runs to figure out how a packed baster is supposed to feel.

1-3 of these treatments then you are golden.

When you say 1-3 of these treatments and you are golden, does this involve an additional 10 min oven, torch, vac? Or would this be an additional torch + VAC. I remember you mentioned you oven a total of 25 min. so I am guessing it includes additional oven time? In that case we could leave the torching out since it would already be warm enough?

Also where did you happen to find a pyrex that style that works with the pump N seal? I have tried so many and cannot find one that size that will work.
