Internet Security If youre on this site, chances are you have something in your possession that could get you in trouble, so you want to protect your identity when online. This is why TokeCity offers FREE SSL Secured Forum SSL is a protocol for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL works by using a private key to encrypt data that's transferred over the SSL connection. URLs that require an SSL connection start with https: instead of http:..this is the same protocol used by sites like ebay to transfer credit card numbers and confidential information. This alone is a good security measure..but, like myself Im sure some of you are paranoid and would like to take further precautions. Here are some programs and ways to help even more. Proxy Servers: A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary between a user and the Internet so that the enterprise can ensure security. If it finds the requested page, it returns it to the user without needing to forward the request to the Internet. If the page is not in the cache, the proxy server, acting as a client on behalf of the user, uses one of its own IP addresses to request the page from the server out on the Internet. When the page is returned, the proxy server relates it to the original request and forwards it on to the user. So, if you are using a proxy, the website you are visiting will not log your IP, but that of the proxy server. Where do I get a Proxy and how do I use it? There are 2 types of Proxy Servers 1. Public Proxy Addresses: Using public proxies sometime will contain spyware and pop ups. These can be found by going to a search engine (ex. Google) and searching for "Public Proxy Lists". For more info on Public Proxies refer to this TC FAQ LINK: 2. Proxy Programs There are many different programs you can purchase that will do all the work for you (ex. Steganos). Or, you can download JAP for fee. On the site you will find tutorials on how to set it up. More related info... Spy and Adware: Spyware/Adware is any software that gathers user information through the Internet connection without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. Spyware applications are typically bundled as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs that can be downloaded from the Internet; however, it should be noted that the majority of shareware and freeware applications do not come with spyware. Once installed, the spyware monitors user activity on the Internet and transmits that information in the background to someone else. Spyware can also gather information about e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers. To get rid of spyware, download these programs: Ad Aware Spybot S&D I run both about once a week to keep my system clean. Firewalls: A Firewall is a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria. A good firewall program is Zone Alarm A must have program is Peer Guardian. Similar to a firewall, Peer Guardian blocks connections from other computers and logs them for you to see. It is mostly used for p2p programs, but works well with anything. It blocks bad ranges such as RIAA, MPAA, FBI, etc..and the blocklist updates almost daily. Security Tips: Clear your browser history when using a computer that is not your own. Never, attract too much attention to yourself (Publicly asking to trade clones, seeds, etc.) Never reveal too much information about yourself. Everything you say can and will be used against you, so if in your posts you have said you live in Atlanta, have brown hair, a black ford truck, your 36 years old, and have a bad back..then the possible list of people using your account gets smaller.
