Hey Bob and Hashcraver,

good to you all again,

I will be running a RDWC setup here shortly, (for the first time)

Ive been running Hempys for a few years now and I feel im ready for real hydro,

Mabey ill try post some pics of system shortly,

BOB- i was told that viniger's PH rises after a few days,,

I have to use 4ml/gal to bring my ph down to 5.4-5.6, within a few days, if I test the ph it will be around 6-6.5, So viniger might not be good in a full hydro system (unless you can adjust everyday)

anybody know a good PH-down?

You're not supposed to store your PPM pen in calibration solution. Also you should rinse the pen in water before using it to take measurements. In any event, 1000 PPM and 6.5 pH is way too high for a small cut or any size cut in veg... Hahaa I sound like a broken record... So I'll just keep my trap shut...

P.S. Mad Farmer's Get Down is the Acid I use to lower my pH...

Wut do ya store the ppm pen in then?...water?
Thought maybe the instructions would say, but it jus sez "Store at room temperature." Thought I'm not s'posed to store it dry?

Yeah, I probly shouldn't use the water in the buckit to rinse it.

Here the nute manufacturer's feedin schedule...

It ain't exactly a rooted clone any more, but it ain't exactly veg yet either, so I tried to hit in between.

Got water that strays alkaline, and no Down, wut do ya do?
Last time I tried to fuk with the pH...din't work. So this time I'm shootin fer food levels, and nevermindin the pH correction.

Coarse everythin gits fixed once I git the Down, but until then, am I gonna jus quit....hell no.

Never follow the manufacturers feeding instructions unless you want to fry your girls and buy more nutes... Only feed what they're asking for based on the fluctuation in PPM's and pH between topoff's. As for storing your pen, it should have a cap to cover the probe between uses. If you don't use your pen for more than a week, then you can buy storage solution which is different than calibration solution. With respect to pH, I guess you just continue with your experiment until you can buy the proper acid and start over...

I have seen the difference in quality due to ph,

2 of us grew same setup/same nutes/same feeding, (Bob knows who im talking about)

He did not ph his stuff at all, strait from the tap,

I did, ph 5.4-5.8,

his yielded very poorly, nice fluffy buds that you could see thru, resin production sucked ass, and smoked terrible,

I think he yielded between 4-7 grams per plant when he shouldve yielded at least 21-28 per plant, (He couldnt even sell it, not even at 50 a quarter)

I did much better (duh)

the ph makes a big differance,

10-fold

just my 2-cents

These nutes seem very plant friendly. I've run high end on dosage with soil-less...no burn. I also know they are bein used up to 3000 ppm....course that's ina greenhouse with extra lighting and CO2.

I thought aboot doin jus plain water...but wut fun is that. No, seriously, I have given that some thought as well, but I think the pH would go too high then.

I've bin checkin the roots, there seems to be more pokin out each day. But they are comin out higher up on the sides, not out the bottom. I got aboot the bottom 1/2" of the net pot sittin in water...should I actually have the water's surface below the net pot?

My pen does not have a cap, those are the nice Blue Labs pens. So yer sayin store it dry? I wuz under the impression that the electrode material deteriorates faster that way?

I am aware the pH is off. Manufacturer's recommendation fer hydro is 5.5-5.8. But I will not wait...I will play around & experiment until I kin do it proper. It teaches me things, like not to use vinegar. I'm not expectin to flower a plant in it this season. Instead, I intend on practicin veggin in it this summer, more experimentin, and hopefully, I'll have a plant ready to go in the fall when I start flowerin agin.

I'm jus hopin I don't have an issue with the hardness of my water.
I got a cheapo water filter...should I try & use that to remove some of the water's mineral content?

Not really sure about the Bluelab Bob... I'm a Hanna fan and my 98129 has a cap. I always rinse off after use and then put the cap on. Also, my tap water is just over 400 PPM and I didn't get an RO filter until my 3rd round...

As for the nutes, ppm's and pH... I guess you gotta get burned to learn sometimes...

that slimy shit was the acetate from the vinegar. It really reacts with the nutrients and makes a blob. If you had kept adding vinegar it would have made a respectable ball of acetate
heh heh on the nutrient end of things, either the nutrients are soluble and respond to osmosis pressure, or else... they're not. I look forward to seeing which it is!
I own a PPM meter. It's a fancy ass one all blue with a long probe on the end of a chord. Personally, I know a ppm pen is only for reference and the plant itself indicates which levels are acceptable. How do I store my ppm meter? I just leave it laying on the shelf. I paid 150$ for the thing and it's calibration hardly ever needs adjustment. On the other hand I also purchased a cheap ass one (70$) before the expensive one and it suuuuuuuuuucked. You had to calibrate it before every test! stupid pen style ick! I loaned my expensive ppm meter out since it had already performed it's duty. You just dunk the probe, take the reading, then toss the unit onto the shelf. I'll take a photo of it and post that.
Good to see the plant is starting to do something again.

I never talk about my growing method, because nobody would believe that's how I did it anyways. "one plant, one pound, no ph testing, you made that shit up!"

I jus got a cheap Hanna PRIMO. The pen's a tube with the probe inside of it. Ain't like the nicer pens...I seen how them work, lil solution in the cap wha-la. So if I'm usin this thing at least once a week, I should be good to toss it on the shelf dry eh? That wouldn't be so bad, I'd dunk it twice a week jus to be able to do that.

I think Ima hafta test that water filter. Like I sed it's jus a cheapo one, so I don't expect anythin spectacular. But if it kin pull soma the ppm out, my overall ppm will decrease, and it might affect pH...good or bad.

Where should my water level be?
...should it be just into the net pot?...or just below it?
