sounds great
and even at full volume its very clear

too bad I'm always on the laptop and the desktop hooked up to the stereo is still out of commission

HasMasta-Kut has the right idea, quality audio gear!

Those shelf systems are rubbish for the most part, they claim 500+ watts when in fact they put out 20-30 watts per channel at the most. How can they do that? Say the system includes two larger speakers and two smaller satellites. Say each larger speaker can handle 150 watts, and each smaller one can handle 100 watts. The amplifier puts out around 20 watts per channel, meaning 40 watts total. They simply add that up and get 540 watts!

Sounds really impressive, when it's actually a poorly built low power unit thats main focus is to look fancy. Not to mention that after less than a year many fail, leaving you with one big hunk of plastic junk.

You could spend $100 on eBay with some vintage gear and blow away anything those shelf systems have to offer. Heck, you could spend $50 and accomplish the same thing.

They are the equivalent of hitting a 12" acrylic with metal bowl

Same goes for most any HTIB (home theater in box) and computer sound system. I realize size is an issue for computer speakers, pick up a pair of NHT Zero speakers for less than $100, and buy a smaller NAD amp. You have a computer system that will sound better than most peoples main systems!

I currently have a pair of bang & olufsens as my computer speakers, sound absolutely amazing.
