Nothing wrong with that at all! I'm just saying, if anyone is looking to spend some money look into components, not those shelf systems or boxed systems. You will probably end up a happier person in the end. Not only that, but resale value on components is much higher than shelf systems and HTIB systems. As far as what to get for $100 on ebay, there are tons of options. You have to consider space, the power of your current amp, what music you listen to, what looks good to you, etc. Although, If you want a really big improvement replace the whole thing, not just the speakers. Here are a few recommendations for speakers under $100: Polk Audio Monitor 5 or 5Jrs. You can usually get them for around $100. The 5 uses a 6.5" woofer and 8" passive, and the legendary silver coil dome tweeter, while the 5jr is smaller and uses a 6.5" passive. B&O S45. You can usually find them for around $100 as well. 8" peerless woofer, 1" Phillips dome tweeter, and 3.5" (I think) SEAS midrange. All very high quality components, they put out amazing bass for a 8" woofer. Although it is a hassle to get ahold of proprietary B&O plugs. NHT Zero speakers, as mentioned before. Very small, they only have a 4.5" woofer I believe, but go lower than you'd imagine something this small would. Go for around $100. Boston Acoustics A40. Go for much less than $100. Infinity Sterling and Reference series bookshelf speakers also offer great sound for the price, usually around $50-$60 on eBay. One thing you have to think about is the actual quality of the sound. Many lower end speakers boost both the low and high frequencies to make them seem better. In other words, they pump out shallow muddy bass and shrill highs so they seem to put out good sound. Better speakers will put out much deeper, tight bass and smooth airy highs. Increase the price to about $300 and you can really get some amazing sound, whether it be floor standers or stand mounts. Sorry for the long post! |
