As long as most of the cube gets wet during the flood it is all good since the RW really soaks the water up like a sponge. Hydroton/lava rocks would still be a good idea on the flood table...you don't want really any light getting at the roots.

So theres an air pump and a water pump? Why the air pump / air stones in the rez? Just to keep it not stagnant?

oxygen thats wat the stones and air pump are for
they provide oxygen to the roots
and stop the mix from sitting stagnant
this i think would be the perfect system 4 a single plant under a 400
with the propper trainin u could pull some weight
    wat are your feed rates??
id have a go with some hydroton as me + rockwool are enemys

Yeah the air pumps are to keep the nutrients moving around in the rez plus more oxygen in the water is always good. The most I pulled off in my system o far was 9 oz's off of the 400watt light and 6oz's off of a 250watt. I use PBP and just use my ppm meter to kind of guage everything...I like to keep my ppm's around 800-1100.

Thanks for the info! Sorry for the rookie questions...

How tall is this system? My shed isn't the tallest, I need to put something together that is fairly height efficient.

Also does the water pump just pump the liquid straight into the black tray? Or is it somehow distributed to each plant?

If you were to try and make two of these systems, to run side by side, would it be realistic to just get a very powerful water pump and a really large rez, and just have the pump split and going to both tubs?

My system is probably 3ft tall
Yes the nutes are just pumped straight up to the black tray
you don't even need that big of a pump to run 2 trays...just a regular rio from the aquarium stare should be adaquet

Thanks for all your help trip! We put together a two tub setup like described, it's working great! I'll post more pics later.
